Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance study the cost of transporting persons committed to treatment by mental hygiene commissioners and the impact on deputy sheriffs and the costs incurred by sheriff's departments.

Whereas, Deputy sheriffs perform valuable services to this state; and
Whereas, A significant portion of time and money is spent by deputy sheriffs on the transportation of persons committed to treatment facilities by mental hygiene commissioners; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to study the impact, both financially and on the other law-enforcement duties, of transporting persons committed to treatment facilities by mental hygiene commissioners upon deputy sheriffs; therefore, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2006, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
